Negretti & Zambra was established in 1850. The company manufactured scientific instruments, as well as stereo cameras and stereoscopes. In addition, it was a major publisher of stereoviews produced by photographers associated with the company and by independent photographers, such as Claude-Marie Ferrier and Francis Frith. The company operated several premises in London.

Negretti & Zambra published the stereoviews made by Francis Frith during his three journeys to Egypt and the Holy Land between 1856 and 1860. The stereoviews were issued both as paper stereoviews and glass stereoviews and achieved considerable commercial success.
