Ardito, John
Region: United States Period: 1850–1890 Occupation: Instrument makerJohn Ardito was a stereoscope manufacturer based in Hoboken, New Jersey. In 1876, he and John Pagluighi jointly patented a design for a pedestal Holmes-Bates stereoscope. The design described in a second patent from 1880 was probably never manufactured.
Their first patent bears a strong resemblance to Antonio Quirolo's final patent. There are several indications that Ardito and Quirolo collaborated. A Holmes-Bates stereoscope manufactured by Ardito also carries Quirolo's patent references, and a New York City directory from 1874 lists both Ardito & Co. and Quirolo at the same address. It is therefore possible that Ardito manufactured stereoscopes based on Quirolo's designs.
