Viewing case

A viewing case is a simple, foldable stereoscope designed for viewing daguerreotypes and, later, ambrotypes. The case allowed the image to be viewed while simultaneously serving as protective housing for the fragile and valuable photographic plate. Viewing cases were developed in England and the United States.
