A multi-view stereoscope allows multiple stereoviews to be viewed in succession by turning a knob, crank or by operating a lever. Chain-based and tray-based viewers are the most common types of multi-view stereoscopes. Viewing multiple stereoviews requires a mechanism, and as a result most multi-view stereoscopes are large tabletop devices. However, a number of compact and innovative hand-held stereoscopes also exist.
