Adolphe Block was a prominent publisher of stereoviews in France. His company expanded through acquisitions, which enabled him to secure a large share of the market.
In 1866, Adolphe Block took over the business activities of François Benjamin Lamiche, including a photographic series titled Les Théâtres de Paris, with views of performances in the theatres of Paris. In 1868, Block issued the first series of Diableries.
The negatives of the publisher Jean Andrieu were acquired in 1873, giving Block control of a large share of the market.
From 1866, Block worked in partnership with Louis Alfred Habert. The collaboration ended in 1881, after which Block continued the publishing business independently. Block's stereoviews can be identified by the initials B. K.
By the end of the nineteenth century, Block’s company had also become active as a manufacturer of stereoscopes. The viewers were probably designed and manufactured to support the stereoview business.
