The original name of the Stéréoscope miniature is unknown. It is a very small stereoscope, with a baseplate measuring only 7 × 9 cm. The viewer bears the initials “J. D.” of Jules Duboscq. This is notable, as instruments from his company are usually marked “D. S.”, referring to Duboscq-Soleil.
The viewer is intended for small albumen prints on a roll. The roll is mounted between two rollers inside the device. The extremely thin albumen prints are illuminated by transmitted light via a ground glass.
The Stéréoscope miniature shares the same external characteristics as Duboscq’s Grimatiscope, which is intended for ordinary images.
