A ground glass is a translucent glass surface that has been roughened on one side to diffuse light evenly. Stereoscopes equipped with a ground glass at the rear of the device are intended for viewing glass stereoviews or tissue stereoviews. They allow illuminating the stereoviews using transmitted light while blocking the surrounding visible environment.
