One of the last stereoscope designs by Underwood & Underwood is described in two patents. The first patent, by Henry E. Richmond, describes a collapsible Holmes-Bates stereoscope with a lazy tong mechanism. The second patent of Louis Stern describes a collapsible hood. Both patents were assigned to Underwood & Underwood. The combination of both designs results in a highly compact Holmes-Bates stereoscope.
