Lewis Pattberg ran the firm Lewis Pattberg & Brothers in Jersey City Heights, New Jersey, together with his brothers Hilarius and Philip. By 1890, the company also had a branch in New York City.

Lewis Pattberg & Brothers manufactured fancy goods, including picture frames and albums. The company also produced a series of pedestal Holmes-Bates stereoscopes that were largely made of metal. Two designs were patented by the brothers Hilarius and Lewis and combined a graphoscope and stereoscope. A third design was created by Gustav Schneck, but the patent was assigned to Lewis Pattberg.
