Metal stereoview
Period: 1850–1890 Tag: GlossaryThe first stereoviews produced on a large scale were based on the daguerreotype process. This process used metal as the image support, specifically a polished silver-plated copper sheet. After the daguerreotype was replaced by newer photographic processes, the role of metal as a support material for stereoviews largely disappeared, and paper and glass became the principal materials. Tintypes were also produced on metal plates, but stereo tintypes are rare.
