Curved stereoview

Region: United States    Period: 1850–1890 / 1890–1930    Tag: Glossary

A paper stereoview mounted on slightly curved cardboard is intended to enhance the stereoscopic depth effect and also to reduce lens aberrations when used with the inexpensive Holmes-Bates stereoscope.

The curved stereoview was introduced by B. W. Kilburn in the United States in the late 1870s. The unpatented curved stereoview design was also adopted by other publishers and became a standard for the larger 8.5 x 17 cm paper stereoviews.
