Binocular disparity

Tags: Glossary / Stereoscopy basics

Binocular disparity is the small difference between what the left eye sees and what the right eye sees. This difference exists because the eyes are positioned a short distance apart. Binocular disparity is provided by the stereoviews used in a stereoscope. Each stereoview consists of two images taken from slightly different viewpoints, creating the disparity needed for depth perception.
