Additive colour

Tags: Glossary / Photography processes

Additive colour is based on the mixing of light of different colours. By combining three light sources with the primary colours red, green, and blue, a wide range of other colours can be produced. The starting point is black (absence of light), after which coloured light is added and mixed. A balanced combination of the three primary colours results in white.

Early colour photography processes, such as autochrome and omnicolore, applied the screen process to implement additive colour reproduction.
