The Unis France trademark was established in 1915 by the Union Nationale Inter-Syndicale des Marques Collectives. It was introduced to designate quality products of French origin at a time when exports and national industry required clear identification in international markets. The mark functioned as a collective trademark and could be used by multiple French manufacturers.
A numerical system identified individual members. Two numbers were assigned and displayed on the left and right sides of the label. Stereoscope manufacturer Mattey made extensive use of the mark on his products. Mattey’s identifying numbers were 76, indicating the product category, and 3, representing the individual member number. Jules Richard also joined Unis France, although his use of the trademark appears less frequently. Richard’s identifying numbers were 76 / 27.
