The Stereo-Gothard is a Holmes-Bates stereoscope equipped with a hood that converts the inherently open viewer into a closed system. The hood was also available as a separate accessory.
The design originated from Roddo Y. Young of the American Stereoscopic Society. This publisher was active approximately between 1895 and 1908 and had no connection to the earlier company of the Langenheim brothers, which was established in 1861.
