Latimer Clark system

Region: United Kingdom    Period: 1850–1890

The Latimer Clark system was an invention by Josiah Latimer Clark. The system made it possible to produce stereoscopic photographs using a single camera on a single negative plate.

The camera was mounted on a lazy-tongs mechanism, allowing it to be moved easily from left to right to make the two exposures forming the stereo pair. The plate holder was moved as well, making transposition unnecessary.
