The box-type stereoscopes produced by Ernemann are characterised in particular by their distinctive burgundy-coloured housing. The viewer was available in a wide range of formats.
The stereoscope has no insertion slot; instead, the ground glass at the rear must be opened to insert the stereoview. Later versions of the viewer were more compact and featured a different focusing mechanism.
