Fouquet
Region: France Period: 1890–1930 Occupation: Instrument maker Tags: Mattey / FouquetThe Fouquet company was founded in 1834. It was first recorded as a manufacturer of stereoscopes in 1873, at which time the business was managed by Jean-Baptiste Fouquet. Fouquet patented an improved version of the graphoscope in the same year.
In 1875, Fouquet entered into two successive collaborations. Both partnerships were short-lived, after which the company continued under the name J. B. Fouquet.
After Fouquet's death, the business was continued by his widow, Eugénie Grace Hubert, and their eldest son, Henri-Albert Fouquet. In 1890, the company employed around 30 workers and exported its products internationally.
Following the death of Hubert, the company was briefly continued by Henri-Albert. His death two years later brought the independent history of the firm to an end, after which the business was sold to Mattey. Its name was subsequently retained in Mattey’s Marque P & F trademark.
