Anthony, E. & H.T.

Edward Anthony opened a daguerreotype studio in 1841. From 1849, he started focussing on manufacturing, wholesaling, and publishing. In 1852, Edward’s brother Henry T. Anthony joined the firm as an active partner with responsibility for the manufacturing and technical aspects of the business.
From 1859 the company began the production and distribution of paper stereoviews. By the early 1870s the catalogue offered up to 11,000 views. Anthony also published Mathew Brady’s stereoviews of the American Civil War.
Until 1880, E. & H. T. Anthony and Company was the principal producer of photographic equipment and accessories in the United States.
