The pedestal Dioramic stereoscope is characterised by a box-shaped body with a lens holder that moves in and out for focusing. Around the lenses is a distinctive curved panel. The hinged lid at the top is fitted with reflective foil to illuminate the stereoviews. The rear of the viewer is open.

Dioramic stereoscopes are marked with serial numbers, which is rather unusual for early stereoscopes.
