Corte-Scope Company

Also known as: American Corte-Scope Company

Region: United States    Period: 1890–1930    Tag: Cortescope

The Corte-Scope Company was founded by John J. Murphy in 1911. The company was based in Toledo, Ohio, but later relocated to Cincinnati. Corte-Scope specialised in using the stereoscope as a sales instrument for businesses.

Instead of carrying heavy product samples, machinery, or factory equipment, travelling salesmen used the compact folding metal Corte-Scope stereoscope. Corte-Scope also produced promotional stereoviews for companies, allowing customers to experience realistic three-dimensional demonstrations of products and factories.

Corte-Scope patented several designs for compact folding Holmes-Bates type stereoscopes.
