The design of the Combination Stereoscope was patented by William H. Lewis, but the patent was assigned to E. & H. T. Anthony.

The Combination Stereoscope consists of a wooden drum with a cylindrical lid. The drum provides space for the viewer and a collection of paper stereoviews. The lens panel is attached to extendable metal lazy tongs, based on an 1870 design by E. K. Page.

In another model, the lens panel is mounted between two extendable rods on either side of the lenses, and there was a model in which the viewer was mounted on a more basic wooden box.
