Clouzard & Soulier

Region: France    Period: 1850–1890    Occupation: Publisher

The company of Athanase Clouzard and Charles Soulier was a prominent publisher of glass stereoviews. In 1854 they patented a design that simplified the manufacture of glass stereoviews. Earlier stereoviews consisted of three layers of glass, with the emulsion plate enclosed between two protective plates. The Clouzard & Soulier design reduced the construction to two layers. This allowed stereoviews to be produced more easily and at lower cost, while also reducing their weight.

The collaboration between Clouzard and Soulier ended in 1859. Soulier subsequently partnered with Claude-Marie Ferrier in the company Ferrier père, fils et Soulier.
