The stereoscope patented by Clément & Gilmer was designed to allow multiple stereoviews to be viewed in succession. A stack of paper stereoviews is placed in a holder within the device. After an image has been viewed, it drops down into a lower compartment of the viewer, making the next stereoview available for observation. This arrangement enables a series of stereoviews to be viewed one after another without manual replacement. The stereoscope is collapsible, with the lens panel rotating into the body of the box for storage and transport.
