Bioscope

Also known as: Stereo-fantoscope

Region: France    Period: 1850–1890    Tag: Duboscq

The Bioscope was an over-under stereoscope developed by Jules Duboscq that allowed both motion and stereoscopic depth to be observed. On a circular disc, twelve stereo images were arranged vertically in sequence, each representing a different phase of movement. When the disc rotated, both motion and depth became visible. The Bioscope was listed in a catalogue of Duboscq, but no surviving examples are known.
