Alexis Fay was an optician, stereoscope retailer, and publisher of stereoviews. In 1855, he and Antoine Jules Martin patented an early focusing mechanism for the Brewster-type stereoscope. The mechanism allowed the two oculars to move inward and outward simultaneously. Their movement was coordinated by a linkage system housed within the body of the viewer.
