3-D

Tags: Glossary / Stereoscopy basics

3-D, or three-dimensional, refers to spatial representation characterised by three measurable dimensions: width, height, and depth. In visual representation, 3-D denotes the perception or depiction of depth in addition to height and width, creating the impression of spatial volume.

Stereoscopy is one method of producing a 3-D perception. It generates the impression of depth by presenting two slightly different images to the left and right eyes, corresponding to their different viewpoints. The brain fuses these images, resulting in a three-dimensional visual experience.
