Vérascope

Region: France    Period: 1890–1930    Tag: Richard

Vérascope was a brand of Jules Richard. The term has several meanings and is primarily associated with the Vérascope stereo camera introduced by Richard in 1893 for the new 45 x 107 stereo format. This format is therefore also referred to as the Vérascope format.

Richard subsequently used Vérascope as a trademark for a product line centred on the 45 × 107 format. In addition to the Vérascope camera, the range included stereoscopes and photographic accessories. The assortment offered products in different price ranges, bringing stereo photography within reach of a broader group of amateur photographers.

Vérascope became a major commercial success and led to a revival of stereo photography in France. Renowned German manufacturers such as ICA and Ernemann also adopted the new format in their product lines of stereo cameras and stereoscopes.
