The Stéréoscope à main perfectionné was primarily intended for glass stereoviews but also featured a hinged lid for the illumination of paper stereoviews. The earliest models were entirely made of wood with angled sides. A later model, manufactured by Mackenstein's successor Suffize & Molitor, had a body covered in black leather and took the form of a rectangular box. The later 6 x 13 model was also adapted to accommodate 7 x 13 stereoviews.
