Spherical aberration

Tags: Glossary / Optics

Spherical aberration occurs when light rays passing through the edges of a lens focus at different points than those passing through the center, leading to a blurred image. This optical imperfection is due to the spherical shape of lens surfaces, affecting the sharpness and clarity of the image. Achromatic lenses are used to reduce the effects of spherical aberration.
