Lechner & Müller was a prominent manufacturer of optical instruments in Vienna between approximately 1890 and 1920. The company began as a bookshop and publishing house founded by Rudolf Lechner. Through a collaboration with Wilhelm Müller, the company developed into a designer and manufacturer of optical instruments. Nameplates on its instruments bear the name R. Lechner (W. Müller), Wien, indicating that the company was headed by Lechner.

One of Lechner & Müller’s most important contributions was the development of instruments for photogrammetry (the creation of maps and measurements based on photographs).

Lechner & Müller manufactured scientific measuring instruments as well as cameras, stereo cameras, and stereoscopes. A detachable pedestal stereoscope was probably designed and manufactured exclusively by the company.
