The Bergoscope probably originated in France, but was also distributed in Germany under the name Bergoskop. The cardboard viewer was intended for 3 x 7 cm paper stereoviews and features three insertion slots arranged in sequence, allowing a basic form of focusing adjustment. Two rotating lens covers protect the lenses when the viewer is not in use.

The stereoscope has also been seen under the name Lohire, distributed by the Spanish publisher Libreria Matias Real. The German publisher HEGI / Feldstereo-Verlag distributed the stereoscope under the name Feldstereo, together with series of stereoviews depicting the First World War.
