The postcard flourished at the beginning of the 20th century. The cards measured 9 × 14 cm. This popular format was also adopted by publishers who began issuing paper stereoviews in this size. As a result, a number of simple stereoscopes were developed specifically for postcard-format stereoviews, such as Le Merveilleux and Le Cartoscope.
