The 6 x 13 cm format, together with the 45 x 107 mm format, was the most popular stereo glass format from around 1900. The format was widely supported by French and German instrument makers in stereo cameras and stereoscopes.
The exact origin of the format is unknown. It likely emerged as an unofficial format in France in the 1890s.
