Louis Provot was located at 52, Rue Ordener in Paris. The seller sold 45x107mm glass stereoivews with images of the war in wooden cases of 50, 100 or 200 slides. On the inside is a stamp visible with Louis Provot Édition Stéréoscopique or Louis Provot Stéréo-Édition.
The cases with 100 or 200 slides could be purchased with a simple Unis France handheld stereoscope. The images from the collections can be largely, or perhaps exclusively, categorized as Brentano’s.
The collection provides a representative picture of the war, seen from a French perspective. With the cases, the seller was probably not targeting collectors, but customers who wanted to get an overview of the First World War with a single purchase.
